Came close to capturing his third European Tour title at The 2009

 European Open, only to be denied by one shot by Frenchman Christian

 Cévaër. Limited to 11 appearances in 2010 – making the cut in five of

 those – because of the recurrence of a back injury which blighted him

 three years earlier, and was given a season-long medical exemption for

 2011. Represented Scotland at all levels as an amateur. Turned

 professional in 1988 and became assistant at Burhill GC in Surrey.

 Graduated to The European Tour at the third attempt at Qualifying

 School in 1992, and was named Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year after

 finishing 30th on the Order of Merit the following year
