European Tour Profile  - Alan McLean

Struggled in the 2008 season with a foot injury which made walking

torturous and forced him to miss most of the second half of the

campaign, meaning he has a medical exemption for his first 11 events of

2009. Born in Clydebank, Glasgow, raised in South Africa and lives in

Canada – he is a well travelled Scotsman. One of the main reasons he

maintains his Scottish nationality is to keep his dream of playing in The

Ryder Cup alive. His first involvement in the game was around the age of

eight, when he would caddie for his father in South Africa. Never played

the game “properly” until the age of 23 when his National Service came

to an end in South Africa, after which he decided to make his living in

golf. Names Arnold Palmer as one of his greatest influences: “He was just

a very charismatic yet humble guy. You can’t put into words what he did

 for golf.”
